If I could have been paid to look out airplane windows all day, I would have taken the job. With my nose pressed, I look up at the deepening blue sky towards the ionosphere, and below to clouds, weather and the earth. Any problems I have seem trivial in comparison to the expanse of our fragile planet. At the same time, I feel the possibilities are endless. This piece, titled “Windows at 37,000 Feet” is an interpretation of space (both physical and mental) inspired by the view from airplane windows.

Lightfast (non-fading) colored pencil on (archival) museum board, 38 inches high by 84 inches wide. Three panels.

“Stone” light-fast colored pencil on museum board, 39 x 30 inches

Quarry

I sometimes carve soapstone sculptures. I am intrigued by the block of stone before it gets carved. I also enjoy nature’s drama of stone cliffs, and the architecture of a quarry.

“Glacial Stream” light-fast colored pencil on museum board, 39 x 26 inches.

Glacial Stream

This represents the feel of the snow, the ice, and the run off - all found in many places in Washington State.
